Take the Stress out of Winter by Hiring All States to be Your Snow Removal Go To

Monday, November 14th, 2011

There are many things about winter that are enjoyable such, as participating in winter sports or cozying up to an inviting fireplace. These winter activities are relaxing and pleasurable to take part in, but there is one inescapable wintertime activity that is consider a necessary chore by many Utahans, shoveling.

Shoveling is a necessary and regular task that needs to be taken care of by both homeowners and businesses throughout the winter. If not kept up with and allowed to pile up, snow can become even more burdensome to remove as it gets more dense and harder with each snowfall and occurrence of sleet.

In residential areas, homeowners who have a sidewalk on their property are required to keep their portions clear for public use, this includes ice. On top of this homeowners also need to keep their driveways snow free in order to make their daily travels outside the home easier and unobstructed.

On the other hand, businesses need to maintain easy access to their storefronts so customers or clients are not put off by troublesome mounds of snow. Parking areas need to be accessible and a path to the storefront is needed to ensure safety and ease of access.

Doing your own Utah snow removal can be taxing, and many times people are unable to do the heavy labor of shoveling and de-icing themselves due to time or bodily constraints. That is why there are companies like All States Landscaping who offer comprehensive snow removal services to both commercial and residential clients.

How to Hire the Right Landscaping Service

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Hiring the right landscaping service is an important decision.  Some services can be too expensive and some just don’t do a very good job. So how do you locate a landscaping service in Utah that will do excellent work and not over-charge you? It’s always best to do some research first and then meet with several prospects before signing any contracts.

Some homeowners just ask their neighbors who they use, especially if they like the way the neighbor’s yard looks. Finding a professional landscaping service that offers great prices can be challenging whichever way you do it. One thing to look for is experience. All States Landscaping has been in business for over ten years. They have a great reputation in the Salt Lake City area among homeowners because they do good work at a fair price.

Services Offered

Not all landscaping services are the same.  Some services only offer minimal help, such as mowing the lawn.  While this is convenient for many people, it often doesn’t provide a person with enough help to keep a beautiful lawn year round.

It’s a good idea to look at what types of services are offered.  Some only offer landscaping services, which include creating the layout of a yard and such.  Others may only offer landscaping maintenance services.  This isn’t bad if you’re just looking for landscaping services or just maintenance services.  All States Landscaping will do as much or as little as you want done. We know that every homeowner has different needs.

Landscaping & Maintenance

Choosing a landscaping service that offers landscaping and maintenance services is a good fit for many homeowners.  This way you can work with the same service to create your landscaping and maintain it.  You know you’ll be able to trust the service once you’ve built a solid relationship with them.

Some landscaping services, such as All States Landscaping, even offer snow removal services.  This means you can work with the service all year round.  You’ll be able to rely on them to take care of your lawn and property during the winter too. This is an added convenience for homeowners.

Price

This is the last important thing to look for when choosing a landscaping service.  The price of a service is very important.  You need to know the service is worth what it’s charging, and you need to know that it fits your budget.  One way to find out the prices is to have a meeting with the service.  Another easy way is to request an estimate.  You can do this for free with All States Landscaping. It’s simple and efficient.

Gaining your business is not as important to the friendly folks at All States Landscaping as gaining your trust. We have worked with hundreds of homeowners over the years providing professional lawn care services that you can rely on at a fair price. Call or email for more information.

Top Tips for Spring Sprinkler Maintenance

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Spring has sprung! Spring means a lot of things – it is a time of rebirth and awakening. The winter is over, the snow has melted, flowers are starting to bloom… and you need to get your sprinkler system in tiptop shape.

Why the need to undergo spring sprinkler maintenance

Your sprinkler system has “hibernated” during the winter season and you need to work the kinks out to ensure that everything is in working condition. Some common problems on the sprinkler system during the winter season include:

-          Physical damage to sprinkler heads or changes in the position of the sprinkler heads

-          Bursting or frozen pipes because of failure to thoroughly drain the pipe.

-          Leakages in the piping, fittings or couplings

-          Insects using the sprinklers and sprinkler system as their “winter home” and causing clogged sprinkler heads

-          Buildup of calcium in the sprinkler heads

Here are some tips to remember to ensure that there are no unpleasant surprises when you turn your water valve on:

-          Check that all manual drain valves are closed. You may have left some of these open during fall when the system was thoroughly drained.

-           Slowly turn on the main water valve. This will gradually fill the pipes between the valve and the cross connection. If you open the main water valve too quickly, this may cause damage. Allow the system to be slowly filled with water.

-          Turn on each zone valve manually. This is to check if each zone is in working condition. Check for any leakage within the system. Valves that don’t properly spray the water indicate that there is a leak.  Leaks may be caused by the drying up of flexible seals during the winter season.

-          Check the condition of the sprinkler heads (its rotation capacity and clogging). The spray patterns should also be accurate – so you may need to change the position of some sprinkler heads so that the water falls on the plants and landscape and not on the pathway or pavement. If the water just falls on concrete, this will just result in run offs – and dry spots for some areas. Sprinkler heads should be ideally at a 90-degree angle to the surface of the soil. This ensures that water is sprayed evenly on all sides.

-          Run the system for one full cycle. Make sure that the pressure is normal.

-          If needed, reprogram the controller.

-          Check if the controller battery (and back-up) needs replacement.

Unclogging the Sprinkler heads

Clogged sprinkler heads mean that some areas do not receive proper water exposure. To clean clogged nozzles, unscrew the head cover and remove the filter. Clean this filter and put it back on the nozzle, after which, you rethread the sprinkler head back onto the stem.

Importance of Spring Sprinkler Maintenance

Making sure that your system is up and running will ensure that you save on your water bills and that your garden is watered efficiently. Failing to check the coverage of your sprinkler system after winter may mean that some plants miss out of the water that they need. You also need to regularly check for coverage since plants grow and will have different watering needs over time. Plants also need different levels of water for different seasons.

Remember that your SLC sprinkler system is not “set and forget” – you will need regular tune ups. A well-maintained sprinkler system will prove useful for years to come.

Watch Out for Ice

Friday, December 31st, 2010

Snow removal is very important during the winter.  This may seem obvious, but it sometimes isn’t taken seriously.  Failure to remove snow can cause many problems.  It’s important to take a step back and look at these issues.

There are three main areas that are affected.  These are businesses, campuses, and residential areas. Of course, there are others.  Each of these three places presents a set of unique issues.  They may look similar, but they result in different consequences.

Businesses

A business’ main concern with snow removal is their customers’ safety and the safety of their employees.  If snow and ice aren’t properly removed or salted their customers may get hurt.  This will significantly impact a business.  Failing to clear the business’ parking lot will also harm the business. Potential customers will be turned away and may turn them in. People are most likely to spread a bad experience than a good.

Campuses

Snowfall can cause serious problems on a college campus.  Colleges have special teams to clean up the area, but it always takes a long time.  There’s simply too much ground to cover.  Sidewalks and parking lots need to be cleared.  Also, there needs to be ice melt put on the ground so it’s safe for the students to walk to their classes.

If these things aren’t done, students could get hurt or be late for class.  This would certainly cause some complaints.  It could even seriously injure a student.  We know colleges value their students’ safety. A simple way to help keep class attendance up and the students safe is to divide the responsibilities. Having two teams will make it easier. One team can work on the sidewalks.  A professional snow removal service could work on the parking lots.  It would get done quicker and keep the students safe at all times.

Residential

This category covers many types of residence. A single family home should take snow removal seriously because it will keep the family and any visitors safe. Townhomes and apartment complexes are also important in this category. Make sure that snow removal is included in your HOA fees. The owners need to efficiently remove snow completely from sidewalks and parking lots. This will keep residents happy and safe.

Liability

Snow removal is important in each of these situations because it reduces the chances of falling.  People are liable for the condition of their property. If someone were to fall and injure themselves on the property they could technically sue the owner. This is a serious risk.  It’s easy to avoid this issue by working with a snow removal service. They’ll remove snow from the property in a timely manner. There’s no need to constantly worry about falls during the winter.  It can be simple to keep everyone safe.

Importance of Snow Removal

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

Removing snow from your driveway or parking lot is always an important job.  There are several ways to take care of the problem. The most popular ways are getting a professional snow removal service and doing it yourself.  Here’s a bit of information to help you choose which option is best for you.

Shoveling snow can really be a pain, especially if you have a large area to work on.  It takes a long time to do with a standard size shovel.  You probably don’t want to get up early to do it either.  Personal preference always plays a big role in choosing a snow removal option.

Personal Property

A larger percentage of people choose to shovel alone when it comes to personal property, even if it’s a large area. They may have a long driveway, and they still do it. Sometimes this choice isn’t practical. It can actually be dangerous.

Someone can easily get hurt while shoveling. It can be very bad for your back. This is especially true when there’s been a heavy snowfall. You may strain your body too much and have to visit the doctor.

Ice is another serious problem. A fall can really hurt you.  It may even break a bone or cause a concussion. This could take you to the emergency room and cause you to have medical bills. If you choose to do it yourself you should always pay attention to your body. If it hurts too much, stop.

Getting a professional snow removal service is a safe choice.  You eliminate the risk of injury and unexpected medical bills. You also get more sleep. There’s no need for you to get up early and go out in the cold.  It’s usually done quicker too, because services use snowplows to clear snow.

Business Property

Shoveling snow yourself for a business can be a bit impractical.  Businesses often have large parking lots, which take a long time to shovel. You certainly can do it yourself if this is a risk you’re worth taking.  It has a lot of the same risks as personal property.  However, the risks are elevated because there’s more space where ice could be hiding.

Shoveling a parking lot is also more annoying. You have to get up even earlier, because you’ll need to drive to your business. It’s stressful because you may lose business if it isn’t cleared quickly enough.

Getting a snow removal service is the most practical option. It ensures that your parking lot will be cleared on time before employees start showing up to work. It will cost more but you won’t lose any business. None of your customers will be turned away, which will actually help business.

Whether you’re looking at snow removal for a personal or business property there are many factors to consider.  One of the most important factors is safety.  Choosing a snow removal service is so much safer and reliable. Usually you can hire a landscaping company to do it for you. They are professional and certified to keep you safe and happy. It’s safer for you, your family and it’s safe for the workers.  You’ll be able to rest and have peace of mind.
